Vietnam signs oil deal<\/p>\n
HANOI (AFP): State-owned PetroVietnam has signed a deal to
\nexplore for oil and gas off the country's southern coast with a
\nconsortium of American and Canadian corporations, the official
\nVietnam News daily reported Saturday.<\/p>\n
Under the contract signed on Friday by PetroVietnam, American
\nOPECO International Inc. and Canadian Petroleum Vietnam Ltd., the
\nthree companies will explore an oil field in the South Con Son
\narea off Vietnam's coast.<\/p>\n
The oilfield, located about 300 kilometers (186 miles) off the
\nsouthern oil hub of Vung Tau is believed to have large deposits
\nof crude oil and natural gas.<\/p>\n
PetroVietnam has recently begun commercial exploitation of
\nVietnam's fourth oilfield, the Bunga Kekwa oilfield located off
\nits southern continental shelf with Malaysian firm Petronas,
\nBritain's International Petroleum Company and Sweden's Sands
\nPetroleum.<\/p>",
