Victims of alleged sexual harassment by 16 students from the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Law (FH UI) are demanding that the perpetrators face severe sanctions, including expulsion from the university. Representing 20 female student victims and seven faculty members affected, the victims' lawyer argues that the misconduct undermines campus safety and university values, insisting that dropout penalties should apply even without physical assault. The case, which surfaced via viral social media conversations in a student group, highlights ongoing issues of sexual violence in higher education institutions and calls for swift action from university authorities.

Depok, Kompas.com - The victims of the alleged sexual harassment
carried out by 16 students from the Faculty of Law at the University of
Indonesia (FH UI) are demanding that the perpetrators be subjected to
strict sanctions in the form of dropout (DO) or termination of
studies.

“Our request is simple; we only hope for one sanction: dropout,” said
the victims’ lawyer, Timotius Rajagukguk, during a press conference on
the UI campus in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

According to Timotius, the DO sanction is appropriate for students
deemed unworthy of continuing their education at the university.

He assessed that the perpetrators’ actions not only disrupt the sense
of safety but also potentially endanger other students and damage the
university’s values.

Timotius emphasised that the elements of violation in this case have
been fulfilled. He also rejected the notion that a DO sanction can only
be imposed if there is physical harassment.

“Do not think that for a dropout, the case must already be more
severe, physical harassment and so on,” he continued.

In this case, Timotius is the lawyer for 20 victims, all of whom are
female students from FH UI.

In addition, he revealed that there are seven FH UI lecturers who are
also suspected to be victims, bringing the total number of victims to 27
people.

The victims hope that the University of Indonesia, FH UI, the UI Task
Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS),
the UI Board of Professors, and the FH UI professors’ ranks can
immediately follow up on this case.

“In accordance with procedures and quickly as well. We do not want
this case to drag on too long,” he added.

The matter of sexual harassment

It was previously reported that 16 UI students are suspected of
committing sexual harassment against female students in the faculty.

The alleged harassment went viral on social media in the form of
conversations leading to sexual matters in a social media group.

The Chair of the FH UI Student Executive Board (BEM), Anandaku Dimas
Rumi Chattaristo, said that all the perpetrators are students from the
2023 intake.

This incident initially came to light when the 16 students suddenly
apologised in the intake group.
",
