Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has thrown his support behind\nthe AI Ready ASEAN programme, strengthened through a collaboration\nbetween the ASEAN Foundation and the Central Java Regional Police (Polda\nJateng). Gibran said the training reflects cross-sector synergy in\njointly promoting the safe and ethical use of artificial\nintelligence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government welcomes various initiatives and cross-sector\ncooperation, such as that undertaken by the ASEAN Foundation together\nwith the Central Java Regional Police in providing technical AI training\nfor students as well as AI training for trainers. This collaboration\nreflects synergy in promoting the use of technology, including AI, in a\nsafe, adaptive, and ethical manner,\u201d Gibran said in a statement on\nMonday (23\/2\/2026).<\/p>\n
The partnership will deliver a series of In-depth AI Training\nsessions, Raising Awareness of AI campaigns, and Training of Trainers\n(ToT) programmes from February to April 2026 across several areas of\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
Support for the programme was also demonstrated through the\nfacilitation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between the\nASEAN Foundation and the Central Java Regional Police, held at the\nOffice of the Vice Presidential Secretariat in Central Jakarta on Friday\n(13\/02). The signing was facilitated by Vice Presidential Special Staff\nAchmad Aditya.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Vice Presidential Special Staff Achmad Aditya\ndescribed the collaboration as a breakthrough worthy of appreciation. He\nnoted that the involvement of law enforcement in AI literacy programmes\ndemonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing the rapid pace of\ntechnological development.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat has been done here is truly extraordinary. People might not\nhave imagined a partnership with the police being possible. Yet this is\nprecisely an important step \u2014 it addresses not only the substance of AI\nbut also its ethics. AI adoption can advance very rapidly, so proper\nunderstanding is key,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Piti Srisangnam\nemphasised that Indonesia holds enormous potential for digital economic\ndevelopment in the region. However, he cautioned that the acceleration\nof technology adoption must be accompanied by improved literacy and\nethical understanding within society.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia is one of the ASEAN countries with great digital\npotential. AI adoption can drive productivity, competitiveness, and\ndevelopment. However, these benefits can only be optimised if\naccompanied by adequate literacy and understanding. Through the AI Ready\nASEAN Programme, we seek to equip communities with the skills and\nethical understanding to ensure AI is used responsibly to promote\ninclusive development,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
From the Central Java Regional Police, Police Chief Ribut Hari\nWibowo, represented by the Head of the Operations Bureau Basya\nRadyananda, affirmed that the MoU signing was not merely an\nadministrative formality. He described the partnership as a\nmanifestation of moral and institutional commitment to providing the\nbest possible service to the public in the digital era.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that good intentions guided by sound governance, strong\ncoordination, and honest evaluation will produce a significant impact.\nLet us make this partnership an example that security, education, and\ntechnology can work hand in hand to build a Central Java society that is\nincreasingly intelligent, resilient, and civilised in the digital\nspace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The programme encompasses In-depth AI Training targeting\napproximately 8,000 participants, comprising young people and parents\nacross six residencies in Central Java: Semarang, Pati, Pekalongan,\nBanyumas, Kedu, and Surakarta.<\/p>\n
To extend the reach of the educational effort, the programme also\nincludes a Raising Awareness of AI campaign targeting more than 140,000\nbeneficiaries, including school students, university students, community\ngroups, and the general public.<\/p>\n
