Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriyah, Sumedang Regency\u2019s Fisheries and\nLivestock Department ensures all community-owned sacrificial animals are\nhealthy, suitable, and safe for consumption.<\/p>\n
Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Public Health (Kesmavet)\nSection, Yuli Jajuli, stated that a health inspection team comprising\nveterinarians, veterinary paramedics, and field officers across all UPTD\nareas has been established.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe district head has issued a decree forming the sacrificial animal\nhealth inspection team. This group conducts on-site checks at livestock\npens by name and address,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She explained that comprehensive ante-mortem inspections are\nconducted before slaughter, assessing physical condition, general\nhealth, and compliance with Islamic requirements.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe check for lameness, deformities, torn ears, eye, nose, and mouth\ncondition, as well as the rear body. The aim is to ensure animals are\nfree from strategic diseases such as anthrax, PMK, and LSD,\u201d Yuli\nsaid.<\/p>\n
She confirmed Sumedang is currently free from these contagious animal\ndiseases.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnthrax, Alhamdulillah, is absent entirely. PMK has been controlled\nuntil early 2025, as has LSD,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Health checks also verify the animals\u2019 age according to Islamic law\nby examining teeth.<\/p>\n
\u201cAge verification is done by checking tooth eruption to ensure\ncompliance with Islamic requirements, such as a minimum of two years for\ncattle,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to data from the department up to 20 May 2026, monitoring\nhas been conducted at 77 livestock sales locations across Sumedang. A\ntotal of 2,927 sheep, 632 cattle, and 83 goats have been\nhealth-checked.<\/p>\n
Livestock traffic monitoring has been tightened. All animals entering\nor leaving Sumedang must have a Veterinary Health Certificate (SKKH) and\nVeterinary Certificate.<\/p>\n
Yuli said the department coordinates with police and village\ngovernments to ensure legal compliance and safe distribution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe request police assistance to check transport vehicles for\ndocumentation completeness, including health and vehicle papers,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n
During slaughter, the department prioritises hygiene and Islamic\nrequirements. Halal slaughterers (Juleha) have received specialised\ntraining.<\/p>\n
\u201cSlaughterers must be Muslim, of age, competent, and familiar with\nproper slaughter SOPs and animal-based food quality,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Post-slaughter, the team conducts post-mortem checks on carcasses and\ninternal organs to ensure meat safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are three inspection recommendations: fully accepted,\npartially accepted (e.g., liver fluke cases), or fully rejected if\nposing health risks,\u201d Yuli explained.<\/p>\n
Sumedang Regency has a surplus of sacrificial animals. Available beef\ncattle: 6,741 heads against a demand of 2,552. Sheep: 20,169 available\nversus 7,069 required. Goats: 5,700 available against 676 needed.<\/p>\n
With these measures, Sumedang Regency Government ensures a safe,\nhealthy, and Sharia-compliant Eid al-Adha celebration.
