Veterans slam young politicians<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Seniors grouped under the Barisan Nasional (Barnas),
\nan independent veterans group, challenged young politicians on
\nThursday to prove their commitment to the state and people or
\nresign from the legislative election.<\/p>\n
Barnas, whose members are mostly retired military officers,
\nalso called on the people exercise their wisdom on election day
\nby voting for the best candidates.<\/p>\n
The group did not go into details about the candidates who fit
\nits criteria.<\/p>\n
\"It's pitiful that none of the political parties have proposed
\na solution to help the country recover from the multiple crises
\nit is facing. No progress has been made during the so-called
\nreform era, as rampant corruption, collusion and nepotism remain
\nwidespread,\" Kemal Idris, a retired three-star Army general, told
\na press conference at the Barnas office in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Attendees at the conference included former minister of mines
\nand energy Soebroto, retired two-star Army general and incumbent
\nchairman of the University of Indonesia alumni association
\nHaryadi Darmawan and former Golkar secretary-general Rachmat
\nWitoelar.<\/p>\n
\"We challenge these young politicians to show us, as voters,
\nwhether they are aware of existing national and social problems,\"
