        "content": "<p>Vendors oppose market plan<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG: Hundreds of vendors in Curug market, Tangerang<br>\nregency, staged a rally on Wednesday at the regency council<br>\nbuilding in Tigaraksa, demanding the administration not to<br>\nrebuild Curug market.<\/p>\n<p>The vendors urged Council Commission B overseeing economic<br>\naffairs to reject developer PT Bangun Bina Prima Sarana's plan to<br>\nrebuild the market, as they considered the old market as below<br>\nstandard.<\/p>\n<p>\"The old market did not have a dump site or parking lot, and<br>\nthe electrical installation was so poor that it could easily<br>\nspark a fire and burn down the market,\" said Andi Suhandi, head<br>\nof the Curug district community group.<\/p>\n<p>Fire razed the Curug market on March 17, destroying some 700<br>\nkiosks and causing material losses of over Rp 20 billion (US$2.35<br>\nmillion).<\/p>\n<p>Mulyana, a Curug vendor, said that since the vendors were<br>\ntemporarily relocated to a soccer field nearby, they had lost<br>\ntheir customers.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Suryadi said the council recommended the<br>\ndeveloper's plan to rebuild Curug market as a response to<br>\npressure from the Curug Market Traders Union and Market<br>\nCooperatives. -- JP<\/p>",
