I am very concerned about the air pollution prevailing in
\nJakarta. One of the causes of pollution is emissions from buses.
\nMany buses emit black smoke from their exhaust pipes, and yet
\nthey are allowed to operate freely in the city.<\/p>\n
On June 22, 2000, which was the anniversary of Jakarta, I was
\ndriving to my campus. A medium-sized Big Bird bus with plate
\nnumber B 7061 BW was in front of me. A sticker on the rear window
\nread: \"The emission of this but is regularly controlled.\"<\/p>\n
The funny thing was that the bus continued puffing out black
\nsmoke from its exhaust. I was wondering what the sticker was for.
\nWas it there for decoration only?<\/p>\n
This letter probably will not attract the attention of the
\npublic because people are primarily concerned with economic
\nproblems rather than the environment.<\/p>\n
However, I would like to call on all fellow citizens and the
\nauthorities to give greater attention to environmental problems
\nin this country.<\/p>\n
