Vehicle thief shot dead<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An alleged motorcycle thief has been shot dead
\nby a police patrol in West Jakarta, City Police spokesman Lt.
\nCol. E. Aritonang said yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said the suspect, identified as Siog bin Karyo, 32,
\nallegedly stole a motorcycle belonging to Powing Cie Kiu, 30, of
\nJl. Al Jihad in Jembatan Besi on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\"The motorcycle was parked in the owner's front yard. The
\nsuspect opened the gate and tried to start the motorcycle with a
\nmodified key,\" said Aritonang.<\/p>\n
He said Powing came out of the house to find out what was
\nhappening, but the suspect already had the motorcycle on the
\nstreet.<\/p>\n
\"The victim ran after the suspect, shouting 'thief' until he
\nspotted a police patrol car passing nearby.\"<\/p>\n
The police traced the motorcycle and the thief after receiving
\ninformation from Powing.<\/p>\n
They spotted Siog not far from the scene and demanded he
\nsurrender.<\/p>\n
Aritonang said the officers were forced to shoot Siog because
\nhe ignored the warning shot. Siog died on the way to the
