Vaccination targets 22 million<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The government will target 22 million children under
\nfive in next year's vaccination program.<\/p>\n
Hadi Maryanto Abednego, director general of communicable
\ndiseases control, said the drive would be divided into three
\nphases, with the first phase, an anti-polio drive, to begin in
\nearly September.<\/p>\n
The second phase, against polio and measles, would be held in
\nOctober while the third phase, anti-tetanus, would be held in
\nNovember. The government would set up 285,973 posts to support
\nthe program, he said.<\/p>\n
This represents an increase on this year's 275,000 posts,
\nincluding health centers, hospitals, schools, bus terminals,
\nairports, railway stations and harbors, he said.<\/p>\n
Hadi said organizations mobilized to make the campaign a
\nsuccess, would include the Armed Forces, women's groups, non-
\ngovernmental organizations, medical professionals and the private
\nsector.<\/p>\n
He hoped the collective effort would enable Indonesia to
\nreceive certification of polio-free status by 2003. Polio has
\nbeen eradicated in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Singapore,
