        "content": "<p>US$16m for East Timor<\/p>\n<p>LISBON (AFP): Donor countries on Friday pledged an additional<br>\nUS$16 million (17 million euros) to help East Timor meet its<br>\nbudget commitments for the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>The pledge came in a statement following a three-day donors'<br>\nconference here.<\/p>\n<p>Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN transitional administrator for East<br>\nTimor, said several countries had not been able to make a firm<br>\ncommitment since their contributions would be subject to approval<br>\nby their own parliaments. But he was confident the funds would be<br>\nforthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said: \"Donors recognized the importance of the<br>\nEast Timor consolidated budget to complement the reconstruction<br>\nprogram and indicated their support for closing the gap of US$16<br>\nmillion for the next financial year.\"<\/p>\n<p>Xanana Gusmao, head of the National Council of Timorese<br>\nResistance, said the reconstruction process \"must include east<br>\nTimorese people of all political persuasions, including those who<br>\nare still living in west Timor\".<\/p>",
