        "content": "<p>Istanbul (ANTARA) - The European Union (EU) failed to secure support\nfrom the United States (US) and other G7 nations for a coordinated\neffort to block Russian oil shipments in its proposed 20th sanctions\npackage.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Russian news agency Tass, a diplomat said in Brussels on\nMonday (23\/2) that the EU had presented the proposal to the US and G7 as\npart of an expansion of restrictions on Russian oil transportation and\nshipping services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EU presented to the US and G7 a plan to fully ban European\ncompanies from transporting Russian oil and from providing maintenance,\nsupply, financing, and insurance services for tankers carrying Russian\noil, regardless of their flag,\u201d said the diplomat, speaking on condition\nof anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe European Commission invited partners to impose similar\nrestrictions. The United States declined,\u201d the diplomat said.<\/p>\n<p>The source added that it remained possible the US would impose its\nown measures under its own terms in due course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther G7 partners stated that joining EU sanctions was possible, but\ngave no clear commitments,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Ukraine war erupted in February 2022, Russia has become the\nmost sanctioned country in the world, surpassing Iran, Syria, and North\nKorea.<\/p>\n<p>According to sanctions tracking databases, more than 16,500\nrestrictive measures have been imposed against Russian individuals,\nentities, vessels, and aircraft.<\/p>",
