U.S. national deported<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (DPA): Indonesian authorities have deported a U.S.
\nnational for possessing pornographic pictures and working in the
\ncountry without proper permit.<\/p>\n
Jack Gilbert West, 50, was deported Wednesday to Singapore
\naboard a state-run Merpati airplane, and \"it is up to him to go
\nanywhere at his own expense\", said an Indonesian immigration
\nofficial, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n
West was arrested on Jan. 31 for possession of pornographic
\npictures, some of them showing oral sex. The immigration official
\nsaid West had been working for years as an English teacher in
\nJakarta without license.<\/p>\n
Prior to his deportation, West went on hunger strike to
\nprotest his detention.<\/p>\n
In a letter to The Jakarta Post, West said such pictures
\n\"would not raise an eyebrow in any Western country\".<\/p>\n
West had lived in Indonesia for several years and left the
\ncountry periodically to get new tourist visas from Indonesia's
\nembassy in Singapore. He is married to an Indonesian woman and
\nthey have two children, the immigration office said.<\/p>",
