        "content": "<p>U.S. meets allies for nuclear talks<\/p>\n<p>SOUTH KOREA: Top nuclear negotiators from South Korea, the<br>\nUnited States and Japan held discussions here on Thursday to lay<br>\nthe groundwork for the resumption of talks next month with North<br>\nKorea over its nuclear weapons program.<\/p>\n<p>After more than a year of stalemate with Pyongyang, the<br>\nsecretive state on Saturday agreed to re-open the six-way<br>\nnegotiations -- an announcement that came with key new aid<br>\ninitiatives from South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>Both Japan and the United States have expressed some<br>\nhesitation about Seoul&apos;s massive offer to stream electricity into<br>\nthe North if it gives up its nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Washington<br>\nwanted to ensure the focus remained on the North&apos;s disarmament,<br>\nwhile Japan said Pyongyang had gone back on its promises before.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday&apos;s meeting brought together South Korean Deputy<br>\nForeign Minister Song Min-Soon, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State<br>\nChristopher Hill and Kenichiro Sasae, director general of Japan&apos;s<br>\nforeign ministry&apos;s Asia-Oceania affairs bureau.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the meeting were not available, but Hill said after<br>\nthe meeting the format of the six-party talks, which also<br>\nincluded China and Russia, was discussed.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&apos;re having good discussions here about modality,&quot; Hill<br>\nsaid. -- AFP<\/p>",
