        "content": "<p>U.S. issues flurry of terror warnings<\/p>\n<p>Agence France-Presse, Washington<\/p>\n<p>The United States has in the past week issued a series of dire<br>\nterrorism warnings for least eight countries, alerting U.S.<br>\ncitizens to the potential for attacks directed at American<br>\ncitizens and interests there, according to the State Department.<\/p>\n<p>Since Oct. 21, the U.S. embassies in Afghanistan, Indonesia,<br>\nIsrael and Jordan have released terrorism advisories to Americans<br>\nin those nations and the State Department in Washington has<br>\nwarned if possible attacks in Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Russia and Saudi<br>\nArabia.<\/p>\n<p>While the warnings do not contain specific details about<br>\nalleged plots or the timing of possible attacks, the spate of<br>\nalerts coincides with the run-up to next week's U.S. presidential<br>\nelection, the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan, the escalating<br>\ninsurgency in Iraq and continuing Israeli-Palestinian violence.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent advisory, issued on Thursday by the U.S.<br>\nembassy in Kabul, said \"security threats remain a serious<br>\nconcern\" and referred to a weekend suicide bombing in the capital<br>\nthat killed a 24-year-American woman who was the fourth U.S.<br>\ncitizen to have been killed in city in two months.<\/p>\n<p>Such incidents are \"stark reminders of the inherent risk<br>\ninside Kabul City and throughout Afghanistan,\" the embassy said<br>\nin the notice. \"The potential remains for additional attacks<br>\nagainst U.S. citizens and interests in Afghanistan.\"<\/p>\n<p>It said U.S. diplomats in Afghanistan had seen a decrease in<br>\nthe level of security alertness by Afghan and international<br>\nsecurity forces since presidential elections earlier this month<br>\nand noted that \"terrorists have demonstrated their ability to<br>\ntake advantage of such opportunity.\"<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the U.S. embassy in Jakarta advised Americans in<br>\nIndonesia that it continued \"to receive reports that terrorist<br>\norganizations could attempt to carry out attacks against<br>\nidentifiably American or other Western facilities or businesses<br>\nin Indonesia.\"<\/p>\n<p>In particular, the embassy said, U.S. citizens should avoid<br>\nall bars and nightclubs for the remainder of Ramadhan, which ends<br>\nin mid-November, because they \"could be attacked by protesters.\"<br>\nA bar in Jakarta that was allegedly serving alcohol was attacked<br>\non Oct. 23, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Wednesday, the State Department issued an advisory for<br>\nRussia, warning of the persistent threat of terrorism there after<br>\nthe twin bombings of Russian aircraft and two attacks in Moscow<br>\nin August as well as the Sept. 1 deadly hostage-taking at a<br>\nschool in North Ossetia.<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities have blamed the attacks on Chechen<br>\nseparatists and the warning noted that \"Chechen separatist<br>\nelements have issued a new statement threatening attacks against<br>\nRussian and U.S. interests.\"<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after issuing the notice for Russia, the State<br>\nDepartment renewed its existing travel warning for Saudi Arabia,<br>\nreminding Americans \"of the potential for further terrorist<br>\nactions against U.S. citizens abroad, including in the Persian<br>\nGulf region.\"<\/p>",
