The vessel had been ordered by US President Donald\nTrump to deploy to the Middle East as part of a massive military\nbuild-up amid tensions with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>According to AFP news agency on Saturday (21 February 2026), the\naircraft carrier was spotted crossing the Strait of Gibraltar \u2014 which\nconnects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean \u2014 in photographs taken\nfrom the Gibraltar side of the strait.<\/p>\n<p>The carrier will join another US aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham\nLincoln, and its accompanying warships which had already arrived in the\nMiddle East region.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said on Friday (20 February) local time that he was\n\u201cconsidering\u201d limited strikes against Iran should negotiations fail to\nproduce an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Trump had signalled on Thursday (19 February) that \u201cbad\nthings\u201d would happen if Tehran did not reach a deal within 10 days,\nwhich he subsequently extended to 15 days.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by a reporter on Friday (20 February) whether he was\nconsidering limited military strikes, Trump replied: \u201cThe most I can say\nis \u2014 I\u2019m considering it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest threats came after Iran\u2019s foreign minister said a draft\nproposal for a deal with Washington would be ready within days,\nfollowing negotiations between the two sides in Geneva earlier this\nweek.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran said both parties had agreed to submit a draft potential\nagreement, which Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told US media\nwould be \u201cthe next step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m confident that within two or three days it will be ready, and\nafter final confirmation from my superiors, it will be submitted to\nSteve Witkoff,\u201d he said, referring to Trump\u2019s chief negotiator for the\nMiddle East.<\/p>",
