U.S. hopes Indonesia will impose IMF reforms<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): United States Assistant Secretary of State for
\nEast Asian and Pacific Affairs Stanley Roth expressed hope
\nyesterday that Indonesia would consistently implement its pledge
\nto see through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reforms.<\/p>\n
\"I hope that this agreement will be implemented vigorously
\nwhich is the commitment of the government of course, for a full
\neconomic recovery,\" Roth said after meeting Vice President B.J.
\nHabibie at Merdeka Selatan Palace.<\/p>\n
Roth arrived here yesterday, his fifth visit since September,
\nto exchange views with Indonesian leaders, including the new
\ncabinet.<\/p>\n
In their one-hour meeting, Habibie briefed Roth on various
\ndevelopments, including those concerning regional and bilateral
\naffairs.<\/p>\n
\"Basically this was a very broad-based meeting. I asked him
\nhis view on the current situation in Indonesia... He gave me a
\nvery long and detailed analysis of developments in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"He gave a very straightforward interpretation about the
\nimportance that we both share, the U.S. and Indonesia, of
\nstability in this region, the importance of the Pacific Rim and
\nthe importance of a strong relationship between our two
\ncountries,\" Roth said.<\/p>\n
Roth declined to reveal more, saying he would give a more
\ndetailed briefing after concluding his meetings with Indonesian
