The United States gathered major defence industry players from both\nthe US and Indonesia for a \u2018Defence Industry Roundtable\u2019 in Jakarta. The\nforum, hosted by the US Embassy, aimed to strengthen strategic\ncooperation, ranging from the modernisation of Indonesia\u2019s defence\ncapabilities to the development of its national defence industry.<\/p>\n
According to an official statement obtained by CNBC Indonesia on\nTuesday, the meeting was led by David P. Jensen, Chief of the Security\nCooperation Division (J55) at US Indo-Pacific Command (USPACOM), and was\nattended by 36 company representatives. Indonesian firms such as PT\nGaruda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia Tbk, PT Pindad, and PT PAL\nparticipated alongside American companies including Lockheed Martin,\nBoeing, and Bell.<\/p>\n
\u2018This roundtable demonstrates the United States\u2019 commitment to\nexpanding cooperation between the US and Indonesian defence sectors,\u2019\nJensen stated. \u2018We welcome opportunities that drive innovation,\nstrengthen industrial capacity, and support mutually beneficial\npartnerships.\u2019<\/p>\n
Participants discussed a range of priority agendas, including the\nmodernisation of Indonesia\u2019s defence systems, enhancing the capacity of\nthe defence industry, strengthening supply chain resilience, and\nexploring cooperation opportunities in the maintenance and upkeep of\nprimary weapon systems (alutsista). The discussion also highlighted\npractical steps to deepen industrial collaboration that supports\nIndonesia\u2019s defence capabilities while reinforcing the regional security\narchitecture.<\/p>\n
According to Jensen, closer cooperation between the two nations\u2019\ndefence industries not only supports shared security interests but is\nalso crucial for unlocking new opportunities in the technology and\neconomic sectors. \u2018By working together, we can achieve shared security\ngoals while creating new opportunities for industry, technological\ncollaboration, and economic growth,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The US Embassy noted that the meeting is part of Washington\u2019s\nwhole-of-government approach to supporting a \u2018free and open\nIndo-Pacific\u2019. Strengthening defence industry ties with Indonesia is\nconsidered a key pillar for enhancing military interoperability and\nsupporting defence modernisation efforts. \u2018Through this dialogue, both\ncountries hope to build a more sustainable defence industry partnership\nwhile expanding opportunities for future strategic collaboration,\u2019 the\nEmbassy added.<\/p>\n
Following the forum, Jensen is scheduled to remain in Jakarta until 2\nJuly.
