        "content": "<p>U.S. embargo on Iran regretted<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian government has expressed its<br>\nregret over the embargo on Iran unilaterally imposed by the<br>\nUnited States.<\/p>\n<p>\"In light of the recent decision by the United States to<br>\nimpose an economic and trade embargo on Iran, the Indonesian<br>\ngovernment regrets this development,\" according to a statement<br>\nfrom the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Dialog and negotiation are the most tenable and effective way<br>\nof resolving disputes between nations, it stated.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Bill Clinton announced on Sunday that he would<br>\nsign an executive order cutting all U.S. trade and investment<br>\nwith Iran to hinder Tehran's alleged support of international<br>\nterrorism and attempts to build nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has continually denied the allegations and deemed<br>\nWashington's actions as \"disgraceful\".<\/p>\n<p>The foreign ministry also released a statement yesterday<br>\nconveying concern over the continuing violence in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is \"deeply concerned at the resumption of<br>\nhostilities in Sri Lanka\", the ministry stated.<\/p>\n<p>In a direct breach of the existing cease-fire, the Liberation<br>\nTigers Tamil Eelam attacked government ships at Trincomalee on<br>\nApril 19 and an army camp a few days later.<\/p>\n<p>\"The attacks constitute a unilateral act by the Liberation<br>\nTigers Tamil Eelam in violation of the cease-fire agreement,<br>\nwhich it had earlier agreed on with the Sri Lankan government,\"<br>\nthe ministry stated.<\/p>\n<p>It called on the Liberation Tigers Tamil Eelam to cease<br>\nhostilities and return to the dialog process to find a peaceful<br>\nsolution to the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\"The government of Indonesia is of the opinion that any<br>\nfurther acts of violence will only lead to the renewal of the<br>\ntragedy that has already brought immense suffering to the people<br>\nof Sri Lanka,\" the ministry said.
