        "content": "<p>U.S. business group hails RI Cabinet<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The U.S.-ASEAN Business Council expressed its<br>\nenthusiastic support for the new economics team named by<br>\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri, noting that some of the names<br>\nappointed were already familiar to the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are very encouraged by the composition of the new<br>\neconomics team,\" said director of the council's U.S.-Indonesia<br>\nBusiness Committee Walter Lohman.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the committee was fortunate to know Coordinating<br>\nMinister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti during his<br>\nyears as the ambassador to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\"He has always been most willing to listen to our concerns and<br>\nwork toward a fair resolution of our issues,\" Lohman said, adding<br>\nthat for three years Dorodjatun did an outstanding job promoting<br>\ninvestment in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The other economics ministers in the new Cabinet have likewise<br>\nbeen very accessible and cooperative during their government<br>\ntenures, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"The naming of this team is a very positive sign for U.S.<br>\ninvestors,\" Lohman added.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has previously worked with all members of the<br>\nPresident's economics team.<\/p>\n<p>New Minister for Industry and Trade Rini Soewandi cochaired<br>\nthe committee's 2000 U.S.-Indonesia private sector round table in<br>\nJakarta, and Kwik Kian Gie, the new state minister of national<br>\ndevelopment planning, gave the keynote address.<\/p>\n<p>The round table is an annual high-level discussion of business<br>\nissues among representatives of the Indonesian and U.S. private<br>\nsectors.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.-Indonesia Business Committee will conduct a business<br>\nmission to Jakarta and Surabaya from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25 in an<br>\neffort to directly engage the new Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.-ASEAN Business Council is a nonprofit, national<br>\norganization in the United States that works to promote increased<br>\ntrade and investment between the United States and the member<br>\ncountries of ASEAN.<\/p>\n<p>Its office in Jakarta has been made possible with the support<br>\nof its members General Electric Company, Freeport-McMoRan Copper<br>\n&amp; Gold, Unocal and Cigna.
