U.S. assists gas study<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The United States Trade and Development Agency
\nwill provide US$302,400 for a natural gas development study in
\nIndonesia aimed at helping the government establish a policy for
\nthe sector and create an infrastructure framework.<\/p>\n
Minister of Mines and Energy Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said on
\nTuesday the government felt developing a gas master plan was
\nnecessary to develop the country's natural gas industry. He also
\nsaid this study would provide key input for this master plan.<\/p>\n
The study will include market identification, a review of
\nproven natural gas reserves to be used for domestic consumption,
\nconceptual design of the transmission and distribution systems,
\ninvestment phasing, procurement and pricing policy proposals and
\nrecommendations for codes and standards.<\/p>\n
\"This study will further stimulate and provide guidance to
\ninvestors,\" Kuntoro said.<\/p>\n
He said the money was earmarked for Lemigas, a state-run oil
\nand gas research and development center, while The Gas Technology
\nCenter, with its international counterpart the Institute of Gas
\nTechnology, would act as project consultants.<\/p>\n
He said the U.S. agency would also assist in designing an
\ninfrastructure framework in West and East Java. (01)<\/p>",
