U.S. Army joins talk on armed law<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A group of military law experts from the U.S.
\nArmy together with their Indonesian counterparts and some unit
\ncommanders of the Armed Forces (ABRI) took part in a one-day
\ndiscussion on the law of armed conflict here Thursday.<\/p>\n
The conference at the Jakarta Military Command headquarters
\nwere meant to strengthen bilateral ties between both armed
\nforces, particularly in promoting the use of such military law,
\nthe command's spokesman Col. DJ Nachrowi said.<\/p>\n
He gave no details on the American team but said there were
\n100 participants altogether.<\/p>\n
The command's Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Sudi Silalahi, who
\nopened the meeting, hoped the discussion would further improve
\nthe professional understanding and capability of the Indonesian
\nparticipants on the legal aspects of national and international
\narmed conflicts.<\/p>\n
The social and cultural background differences of the
\nparticipants could be synergized for the mutual benefit of both
\ncountries, he said.<\/p>\n
"ABRI respects the law and human values in all of its
\nactions," he told the discussion.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Sudi was accompanied by Col. Humberson, a
