US-AEP aids Indonesia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The United States-Asia Environmental Partnership
\n(US-AEP), an interagency program led by the United States Agency
\nfor International Development (USAID), is to contribute
\nUS$750,000 to the country's social safety-net programs as part of
\nits efforts to help Indonesia recover from its worst-ever crisis.<\/p>\n
U.S. Ambassador Stapleton Roy signed memoranda of
\nunderstanding with two local nonprofit organizations, Friends of
\nthe Environment Fund (Dana Mitra Lingkungan) and the Indonesian
\nSociety of Sanitary and Environmental Engineers (Ikatan Ahli
\nTeknik Penyehatan dan Teknik Lingkungan Indonesia) on Tuesday on
\nthe distribution of the aid.<\/p>\n
Roy said that the agreements reflected the United States'
\nsupport for efforts to strengthen Indonesia's social safety net
\nand to speed economic recovery.<\/p>\n
\"The current USAID program will more than double in size this
\nyear, growing to more than $125 million,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The US-AEP has allocated $350,000 to the Eco-Productivity
\nOutreach Crops and Waste Exchange Program with the aim of
\nassisting small and medium industries contribute to the country's
\neconomic recovery.<\/p>\n
Part of the US-AEP's financial commitment in this program was
\na $100,000 grant to Dana Mitra Lingkungan. (aly)<\/p>",
