        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Social media platforms that were initially\nurged by Indonesia to comply with regulations are now beginning to\nadhere, though some have yet to do so. Here is the latest update.<\/p>\n<p>The government is striving to strengthen protection for Indonesian\nchildren from negative content and cyber threats in the digital space\nthrough stringent regulations on platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Based on 2025 data, there are approximately 240 million active\ninternet users in Indonesia, of which 70 million are children under 16\nyears old.<\/p>\n<p>This situation has prompted the government to establish policies\nrestricting social media access for children, regulated under Ministry\nof Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation Number 9 of 2026, which\nis a derivative of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the\nGovernance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP\nTunas).<\/p>\n<p>The initial implementation phase of PP Tunas involves eight\nplatforms: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok,\nand Roblox.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted that today the government can express appreciation\nto the TikTok platform, which has also decided to join the collective\nmovement to protect children, particularly in Indonesia,\u201d said Minister\nof Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid during a press\nconference at the Komdigi Office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday\n(14\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Meutya stated that TikTok has implemented various compliance\nmeasures, marked by the submission of a letter of commitment to the\nGovernment of the Republic of Indonesia regarding its commitment to\nimplement the provisions outlined in PP Tunas and the ministerial\nregulation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok has published or is publishing a minimum user age of 16 years\non its platform through its help centre page,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meutya continued that TikTok has also committed to regularly updating\non the results of its implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Komdigi records that TikTok is the first platform to report that as\nof 10 April 2026, it has deactivated 780,000 user accounts known to be\nunder 16 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok is the first platform to report that as of 10 April 2026,\nTikTok has deactivated 780,000 accounts of children under 16 years old\nfor Indonesia,\u201d Meutya stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe once again appreciate TikTok for reporting early on the number of\naccounts successfully taken down,\u201d she added.<\/p>",
