UPC's secretariat pelted with stones<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The secretariat office of the Urban Poor
\nConsortium (UPC), which uncovered money politics practices
\nallegedly conducted by political parties, was pelted with stones
\nearly on Friday.<\/p>\n
Wardah Hafidz, UPC's coordinator, said the front glass of the
\nsecretariat was damaged during the attack.<\/p>\n
\"The office was in fact guarded by several men and security
\nguards, but none of them dared to go out to see who the attackers
\nwere,\" Hafidz told Antara.<\/p>\n
She said her office received two threatening calls on
\nWednesday morning. The callers threatened to attack and burn down
\nthe secretariat if the nongovernmental organization continued
\nwith a plan to unveil malfeasance on the disbursement of the
\nsafety net fund in the afternoon.<\/p>\n
\"The first caller, named Ali Mustofa, claimed to be a member
\nof the Center for the Community Participation, which is closely
\nlinked with the People's Sovereignty Party,\" she said.<\/p>\n
At the media briefing on Wednesday, Hafidz disclosed evidence
\nabout money politics allegedly practiced by the People's
\nSovereignty Party and the Golkar Party in various regions.<\/p>\n
Evidence showed that the two parties allegedly utilized the
\nsafety net fund and credit reserved for farmers and for small-
\nscale development for the parties' interests.<\/p>\n
Commenting about the threat to the UPC office, Hafidz said she
\nwanted to show the public that in the reform era violence was
\nstill directed toward those who intended to positively contribute
