Simamora, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Trade and Industry said that some 11 brands of<br>\nimported wheat flour products from Australia, India, China and<br>\nMalaysia sold at local markets did not meet government-set<br>\nnutritional requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Budi Darmadi said on Tuesday that the ministry had set up a<br>\nspecial team to further investigate the products.<\/p>\n<p>\"The directorate general of domestic trade affairs will decide<br>\nwhether to revoke the business license (of the importer) or<br>\nwithdraw the products from the market after receiving a report<br>\nfrom the team,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Some 11 brands did not meet our minimum nutritional<br>\nrequirements, such as vitamin B content,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry has recently launched an investigation into<br>\nimported wheat flour products following complaints from consumers<br>\nand industry associations by taking samples from traditional<br>\nmarkets in Jakarta, Makassar, Semarang, Medan, Surabaya and<br>\nPontianak.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry's move is part of efforts to protect consumers<br>\nagainst unscrupulous traders and producers, as stipulated under<br>\nLaw No. 8\/1999 on consumer protection.<\/p>\n<p>According to Article 8 of the consumer protection law,<br>\nproducers and traders are banned from producing or marketing<br>\nproducts or services that do not meet the standards set by the<br>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>Producers and traders also are forbidden from deceiving<br>\nconsumers by falsifying the quality of their products.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Trade and Industry Rini M. Soewandi has also<br>\nissued a ministerial decree on the supervision of products sold<br>\nin local markets.<\/p>\n<p>According to the decree, producers and traders who sell<br>\nproducts in the local market must meet the government's<br>\nregulations with regard to labeling, marketing, advertising and<br>\nafter-sales service.<\/p>\n<p>On labels, for example, the company must print the identity of<br>\nimporters and producers.<\/p>\n<p>Budi also said that the ministry was also investigating 12<br>\nother wheat flour products that had not received certification of<br>\napproval from the National Standardization Agency.<\/p>\n<p>The imported products also did not meet the labeling<br>\nrequirement as they did not show the identity of importers and<br>\nproducers.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Wheat and Flour Producers Association (Aptindo)<br>\nhas also accused wheat flour producers from Australia, Europe,<br>\nand the United Arab Emirates of dumping their products here.<\/p>\n<p>The association has urged the government to impose antidumping<br>\nduties.<\/p>\n<p>Local flour producers include PT Bogasari Flour Mills, PT<br>\nSriboga Raya, PT Pangan Mas and PT Berdikari.<\/p>",
