        "content": "<p>Unregistered lawyers face expulsion<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: In compliance with the new law on legal advocates, <br>\nthe country's courts will only recognize lawyers accredited by <br>\nthe Indonesian Advocate Working Committee (KKAI).<\/p>\n<p>KKAI secretary Harry Ponto told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday a <br>\nlawyer who registered with the committee would receive a <br>\nmembership card, considered a work license.<\/p>\n<p>\"Lawyers are no longer required to register with high courts. <br>\nFrom now on, only lawyers who are registered by the KKAI are <br>\neligible to represent their clients in courts,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The KKAI has registered about 14,000 lawyers who are members <br>\nof eight bar associations in the country. (ret) Pranowo.<\/p>\n<p>The witness, Sardi, testified he had been filled with emotion <br>\nwhen he initially told prosecutors of the Pranowo's role in the <br>\nalleged human rights violation.<\/p>\n<p>He denied his previous statement he had been severely tortured <br>\nwhile under military detention after he joined a protest against <br>\nthe arrest of four Tanjung Priok residents held in the district's <br>\nmilitary compound prior to the Sept. 12, 1984 incident.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed he had no idea about the account he himself <br>\nhad signed, saying he was illiterate.<\/p>\n<p>A group of residents were arrested for allegedly burning a <br>\nsoldier's motorcycle.
