Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) has introduced a work-from-home (WFH) policy for its academic community every Friday from 10 April 2026, primarily to address the global energy crisis by reducing energy consumption on campus. The policy, issued via a circular from the Vice Rector for Resources and Governance, applies mainly to administrative staff and non-practical academic activities, with attendance tracked digitally similar to pandemic measures. This initiative, aligned with a Ministry of Higher Education circular, will be evaluated after one month to assess its continuation.

Universitas Padjadjaran or Unpad is implementing work from home (WFH)
for the academic community every Friday starting this week, 10 April
2026. According to Unpad Rector Arief S. Kartasasmita, the WFH policy is
issued to anticipate the global energy crisis.

“If working in cafes and other places, it will not solve the problem
of reducing energy needs,” he said on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

According to Arief, those who will work WFH for one day every Friday
are the administrative sector. Lectures that do not require direct
expertise, field practice, or laboratory work can also be conducted via
WFH. The Rector urged lecturers and educational staff to work from home,
not in cafes or other places outside the campus.

The Unpad WFH regulation was issued by Vice Rector for Resources and
Governance Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata through Circular Number
1198/UN6.WR4/TU.00/2026 on Work Pattern Adjustments. The provision,
which was disseminated to the campus academic community on 7 April,
refers to the Circular from the Minister of Higher Education, Science,
and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 2 of 2026 on Work
Pattern Adjustments and Academic Activities.

The circular states that WFH is applied to the entire academic
community and educational staff, especially those working in the
administrative field. For lecturers and educational staff who have
Friday schedules related to laboratory work, WFH implementation can be
shifted to another day with further arrangements in their respective
work units.

“For academics, especially laboratory lectures both at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels, particularly the specialist medical education
programme (PPDS), everything is offline or not online,” said Widya.

According to her, Unpad does not go as far as changing laboratory
activities, especially in exact science study programmes on WFH days,
but rather rotates shifts for educational staff. “This WFH will be
evaluated in the next month to see if it continues or returns to
normal,” said Widya. Meanwhile, regarding attendance or presence during
WFH, its implementation is like during the previous Covid-19
pandemic.

Employee attendance through digital logbook reports, while for
academic activities via reports to the integrated academic information
system. “The attendance system remains the same, counted twice in one
day at the start and end of work, with reports arranged by each work
unit,” said Widya.

Head of Unpad’s Public Communication Office Dandi Supriadi added that
the scheduling arrangements for educational staff shifts are left to the
respective work unit leaders, while still paying attention to the smooth
provision of services to the academic community and the public. For
lectures, they will be arranged by the respective lecturers to be
socialised to their students.
",
