        "content": "<p>Unocal finds Vietnam gas<\/p>\n<p>HANOI (AFP): A consortium including subsidiaries of U.S.-based<br>\nUnocal Corporation and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co. of Japan have<br>\ndiscovered natural gas offshore Vietnam, a Vietnamese oil<br>\nofficial said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"This is a significant gas find,\" an official from<br>\nPetroVietnam's Exploration and Development Department in Hanoi,<br>\ntold AFP. He declined to give further details pending a formal<br>\nannouncement.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Unocal's regional office in Singapore said<br>\nit \"would be premature to comment\" on the importance of the find.<\/p>\n<p>The discovery was made in Block B in the northern part of the<br>\nMalay Basin southwest of Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>Unocal Vietnam Exploration Ltd, a subsidiary of Unocal, is the<br>\noperator of the block and holds a 45-percent interest in the<br>\nproduction sharing contract signed in May 1996.<\/p>",
