Students at Nusa Mandiri University (UNM) are developing an AI-powered chatbot named Garuda Cyber Shield to educate the public about phishing and cyber threats. The initiative, part of the 2026 Student Creativity Program, aims to address the low level of digital security literacy that leaves many internet users vulnerable to online scams. The university views this as evidence of a growing research culture that produces practical, technology-based solutions for societal challenges.

The research and innovation culture among students at Nusa Mandiri
University (UNM) continues to grow, with a new project focusing on
digital security. Students from the Digital Business Campus are
developing an educational chatbot named Garuda Cyber Shield, designed to
enhance public literacy regarding cyber threats, particularly
phishing.

The innovation was created by students Fadila Hairinnisa, Alya
Mukhbita Ariyawan, and Satria Shobbah Falah from the Information Systems
study programme, under the supervision of lecturer Titin Kristiana. It
is part of the 2026 Student Creativity Programme (PKM).

Titin Kristiana explained that the project responds to the increasing
number of phishing cases and digital fraud targeting the public through
text messages, emails, social media, and fake websites. She noted that a
lack of digital security literacy is a key factor making many internet
users susceptible to cybercrime.

Fadila Hairinnisa, a member of the PKM team, stated that the Garuda
Cyber Shield chatbot utilises Large Language Model (LLM) technology to
provide interactive education. The tool is designed to help users
understand various phishing methods, recognise the characteristics of
digital scams, and receive recommendations for appropriate preventive
measures.

Beyond education, the chatbot aims to raise public awareness about
protecting personal data and making safer decisions during online
activities.

Taopik Hidayat, the university’s Student Affairs Coordinator, said
the development of such innovations reflects a consistent process of
fostering a research culture. He noted that students are increasingly
confident in expressing ideas, exploring solutions, and offering
relevant answers to real-world problems. He added that the Student
Creativity Programme serves as a strategic platform to train students in
critical, creative, and data-driven thinking, shaping them into problem
solvers who can identify issues, conduct analysis, and deliver
innovative, applicable solutions.

As a Digital Business Campus, UNM remains committed to encouraging
student innovation in technology, cybersecurity, artificial
intelligence, and digital transformation, providing continuous
mentorship and support for impactful student work.
",
