Unleaded gasoline introduced<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned oil company Pertamina introduced
\nyesterday unleaded gasoline, called Super TT, with a retail price
\nof Rp 1,000 (US$0.44) per liter, including the 10 percent value
\nadded tax.<\/p>\n
\"This is part of the government's program to decrease air
\npollution and provide the motorists with an alternative,\" the
\ncompany's president, Faisal Abda'oe, told reporters after the
\nlaunching ceremony.<\/p>\n
He said that the unleaded gasoline is produced by the
\ncountry's first export-oriented refinery, called Exor I, at
\nBalongan, West Java.<\/p>\n
The Balongan refinery which was dedicated by President
\nSoeharto on May 24, has a daily processing capacity of 125,000
\nbarrels and produces a wide variety of oil products.<\/p>\n
PT Elnusa, a subsidiary of Pertamina, has been appointed the
\nsole distributor of 50,000 liters of unleaded gasoline per year
\nfor the Jakarta market only.<\/p>\n
Abda'oe said the possibility of involving private companies to
\ndistribute the unleaded gasoline is still open.<\/p>\n
\"We may invite private companies which belong to the Premix
\ndistributor union,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Elnusa's president, Azwad Dipo, said that the company would
\ninitially concentrate on the marketing of unleaded gasoline in
\nthe capital city.<\/p>\n
\"In the future, we may expand our market to other major
\ncities,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that the price of unleaded gasoline is more
\nexpensive than regular gasoline, which is sold throughout the
\ncountry at Rp 700 per liter and the higher-quality gasoline,
\nPremix, at Rp 870 per liter.<\/p>\n
Dipo said that Elnusa had set up seven unleaded gasoline
\nfilling stations in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Industry
\nAssociation, Herman Z. Latief, said that the unleaded gasoline is
\nsuitable for Japanese cars which were made after 1983.<\/p>\n
\"The engines of the automotive vehicles produced after 1983
\nwere designed for the environment-friendly gasoline,\" he
