The number of participants in the independent admission pathway for\nstudents with disabilities at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) has\ncontinued to rise in recent years. In 2026, the total reached 138\ncandidates, an increase of approximately 9.6 per cent compared to 125\nparticipants in 2025.<\/p>\n
The selection process was held offline at the Dewi Sartika Building\nat UNJ on Saturday (18\/7\/2026). Head of the UNJ Admissions Office, I\nWayan Sugita, stated that the increase reflects a growing interest among\npersons with disabilities in pursuing higher education, as well as\nrising public confidence in the inclusive education services provided by\nUNJ.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe number of participants this year reached 138. This increase\nshows that more persons with disabilities are interested in continuing\ntheir higher education and see UNJ as a choice for their studies,\u201d Wayan\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He explained that the three faculties most in demand among disability\npathway participants this year were the Faculty of Engineering, the\nFaculty of Education, and the Faculty of Language and Arts. The study\nprogramme with the highest number of applicants was the Applied\nBachelor\u2019s Programme in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management.<\/p>\n
To support the selection process, UNJ provided various assistance\nservices tailored to participants\u2019 needs. Participants with visual\nimpairments, autism, or attention-deficit\/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)\nwere accompanied by UNJ Disability Volunteers (REDIS) from the moment\nthey arrived on campus until the entire selection process was completed.\nThe committee also placed sign language interpreters in the examination\nrooms to assist participants with hearing impairments.<\/p>\n
REDIS Coordinator for the disability pathway admissions, Prila\nAhdanila, said that the participants\u2019 needs had been mapped prior to the\nexamination. \u201cWe received the participant data and their assistance\nneeds from the Admissions Office. We then divided the tasks among\nvolunteers so that each participant received appropriate support,\u201d Prila\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Ifan Iskandar,\nstated that the disability pathway is part of the university\u2019s effort to\nensure that every citizen has equal opportunity to access higher\neducation. \u201cUNJ strives to ensure that every prospective student has an\nequal opportunity to demonstrate their academic potential. Therefore, we\ncontinue to prepare support services so that the selection process is\nfair and accessible,\u201d Prof.\u00a0Ifan said.<\/p>\n
