        "content": "<p>Jakarta State University (UNJ) is preparing volunteers to assist\nprospective students with disabilities during the independent admission\nselection process for 2026, aiming to ensure an inclusive process and\nequal access to higher education. \u201cUNJ strives to ensure every\nprospective student has an equal opportunity to demonstrate their\nacademic potential. Therefore, we continue to prepare support services\nso that the selection process is fair and accessible,\u201d said Vice Rector\nfor Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs Ifan Iskandar in a statement\nin Jakarta on Saturday. He added that the provision of inclusive\nservices does not stop at the admission process but continues throughout\nthe students\u2019 education on campus. To ensure all participants can follow\nthe selection process properly, UNJ provides various forms of assistance\ntailored to individual needs. Participants with visual impairments,\nautism, or ADHD receive support from UNJ Disability Volunteers (REDIS),\nwho accompany them from arrival on campus until all selection stages are\ncompleted. Additionally, the committee places sign language interpreters\nin examination rooms to help participants with hearing impairments take\nthe test without communication barriers. REDIS Coordinator for\nDisability Admissions, Prila Ahdanila, explained that participants\u2019\nsupport needs were mapped out before the examination. Participant data\nand service requirements were obtained from the Admissions Office and\nthen matched with the number of available volunteers. \u201cVolunteers assist\nwith participant mobilisation and bridge communication between the\ncommittee and disabled participants, while administrative and\nverification processes remain handled by the Admissions Office,\u201d she\nsaid. This year, REDIS deployed 65 volunteers from various cohorts and\nstudy programmes. In addition to active members, volunteers were also\nrecruited from previous cohorts to ensure all support needs could be met\nduring the selection process. Prila added that the volunteers have\nreceived regular training in sign language and disability assistance.\nThey not only accompany participants during the written exam but also at\nthe interview stage. This year, the number of participants in the\nindependent disability admission pathway reached 138, an increase of\napproximately 9.6 per cent compared to 125 participants in 2025. The\nthree most popular faculties among disability pathway participants this\nyear are the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Education, and the\nFaculty of Languages and Arts. Meanwhile, the study programme with the\nhighest number of applicants is the Applied Bachelor Programme in\nCulinary Arts and Food Service Management. Head of the UNJ Admissions\nOffice, I Wayan Sugita, stated that the increase in participant numbers\nindicates a growing interest among persons with disabilities in pursuing\nhigher education. On the other hand, it also reflects increased public\ntrust in the inclusive education services provided by UNJ. \u201cThe number\nof participants this year reached 138. This increase shows that more\npersons with disabilities are interested in continuing their higher\neducation and see UNJ as a choice for further study,\u201d Wayan said.<\/p>",
