Unity and integrity<\/p>\n

The recent violence involving security personnel, student
\ndemonstrators and the general public, and the positive and
\nnegative aspects of the recent Special Session of the People's
\nConsultative Assembly could lead to the disintegration of the
\nnation and have caused a great deal of concern to the people.<\/p>\n
In view of this condition, I would like to appeal to the
\ngovernment, national and social leaders, students as well as the
\nIndonesian people in general to pay attention to the following:<\/p>\n
1. Place national unity and integrity, the interests of the
\npeople and the country above the interests of individuals and
\ngroups.<\/p>\n
2. Respect differences of opinions.<\/p>\n
3. Avoid anarchy and unconstitutional acts.<\/p>\n
4. Do not suspect each other.<\/p>\n
5. Religious organizations must not engage in practical
\npolitics.<\/p>\n
6. Establish national reconciliation by way of:<\/p>\n
a. Not demanding the resignation of the Armed Forces Commander in
\nthe wake of the Semanggi tragedy. Also, the Armed Forces leaders
\nshould not instruct their subordinates to shoot people on the
\nspot, nor should they use real bullets when facing students and
\nthe people.<\/p>\n
b. The radical group (group 17) should not be condemned for
\nattempting to topple the legitimate government. Their opinion
\nshould be considered as valuable input.<\/p>\n
c. Give a chance for the incumbent government to exercise its
\nmandate in accordance with the regulations decreed by the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly.<\/p>\n
