The 2004 national elections will see 24 political parties
\nvying across the country in three phases: the legislative
\nelection, the presidential election, and a runoff election in the
\ncase that there is no majority winner.<\/p>\n
With such a large number of political parties contesting, the
\nparties should take care to maintain integrity, truth and
\ntransparency. Above all, they should be uncompromising in
\nunderlining the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia as a
\ncommon vision.<\/p>\n
The widespread corruption so far have been a result of the
\npolitical elite's emphasizing personal or group interests over
\nnational interests. Therefore, whatever party emerges the winner,
\nthe state should remain its focus of struggle.<\/p>\n
In resolving national problems, sectors that have been
\ndeveloped improperly should be rebuilt with a more appropriate
\norientation. Public aspirations should be channeled and empty
\npromises avoided, so as to protect the people from becoming
\nvictim to dirty politics.<\/p>\n
