Gita shared that one of her most unique experiences occurred when a\nclient requested her company to find someone capable of reading tarot\ncards. \u201cAt that time, there were no events happening, so we couldn\u2019t\nfind anyone. Eventually, I tried seeking information from parking\nattendants, who ended up directing us to a \u2018clever person\u2019 (spiritual\npractitioner),\u201d Gita told detikJogja on Monday (8\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n
Initially, she assumed the client simply wanted a standard\nconsultation. However, upon arriving at the location, Gita discovered\nthe true reason. \u201cI only found out once we were there. It turns out the\nguest shared that for several years, they had felt disturbed and wanted\nto find a solution or a way to ward off the disturbance,\u201d she\nexplained.<\/p>\n
As the conversation was conducted in Javanese, Gita was also asked to\nassist by translating the explanations into Indonesian for the\nclient.<\/p>\n
While this remains her most memorable experience, such requests are\nrelatively rare. According to Gita, most clients use her services for\nmuch simpler needs. \u201cSometimes people ask to be accompanied to find\nboarding houses, shop for souvenirs, go to the mall, or simply hang out.\nEssentially, any activity that requires companionship,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Having launched her service in early 202ng, Gita notes that every\nclient arrives with different requirements, meaning her work extends far\nbeyond accompanying tourists on holidays. Another unique experience\ninvolved assisting a medical student conducting thesis research in\nBantul. \u201cA student asked me to accompany them to the homes of postpartum\nrespondents to distribute questionnaires. I helped ask permission from\nresidents and enquire about addresses using Javanese,\u201d she\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Gita believes that the \u2018friend for hire\u2019 service is not solely about\nsightseeing. Many clients require assistance because they have arrived\nin Yogyakarta alone and are unfamiliar with the local environment.
