        "content": "<p>UNIDO ready to help develop RI's industry<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The United Nations Industrial Development<br>\nOrganization (UNIDO) said here yesterday it was ready to work<br>\nwith the Indonesian government to develop the country's<br>\nindustrial sector.<\/p>\n<p>UNIDO'S Jakarta director Syed Asis Hasnain said yesterday<br>\nstudies conducted by the organization could be applied to develop<br>\nthe country's industrial activities.<\/p>\n<p>\"Indonesia has a very potential industrial sector to supply<br>\nthe world's market ... this potential must be recovered,\" he told<br>\njournalists.<\/p>\n<p>But he said the government must be ready to adjust its<br>\npolicies and measures to support its industrial development<br>\nprogram with the global trend.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government must not help the country's industrial<br>\nsector develop with protections, as they would alienate the<br>\ncountry from the liberalized international economy.<\/p>\n<p>\"The government must be brave in taking its private sector<br>\ninto the global community. I'm confident that Indonesian<br>\nbusinesses can succeed,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The current performance weakening in Indonesia and the Asian<br>\nregion would help the industrial sector mature naturally, he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Hasnain said, aside from the industrial sector, the country<br>\nmust also be prepared for a more globalized economy by improving<br>\nits technology.<\/p>\n<p>Emerging countries must pay greater attention to technology,<br>\nas it would help the country enter the international market, he<br>\nsaid after briefing journalists about the agency's plan to hold a<br>\nseminar on financing industrial investment here next Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Local and international economists, including the managing<br>\ndirector of UNIDO's headquarters in Vienna, Austria, N. Mohanty,<br>\nwill speak at the seminar.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo will deliver<br>\nthe keynote speech at the one-day seminar. (das)<\/p>",
