        "content": "<p>UNICEF to build 835 emergency schools<\/p>\n<p>Andi Hajramurni, The Jakarta Post, Banda Aceh, Aceh<\/p>\n<p>In cooperation with a group of international and domestic non-<br>\ngovernmental organizations, the United Nations Children's Fund<br>\n(UNICEF) started on Monday the construction of emergency schools<br>\nat or near several internally displaced persons camps across<br>\nAceh.<\/p>\n<p>A representative in Aceh, Purwanta Iskandar, said that the<br>\nschools were expected to open on Jan. 26.<\/p>\n<p>\"The consignment of material and school stationery has arrived<br>\nin Banda Aceh. Some of it has already been sent to the Calang<br>\narea, Aceh Jaya,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The international agency has prepared 835 tents for up to 50<br>\npeople each, complete with mats, stationery and textbooks to be<br>\ndistributed to 12 areas affected by the earthquake and tidal wave<br>\non Dec. 26.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have also provided 367 recreational kits and at least<br>\n1,000 teachers who will be trained for three days on how to deal<br>\nwith traumatized children,\" Purwanta added.<\/p>\n<p>The teaching methods will be \"more entertaining\" than normal<br>\nclasses at most regular schools, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The education agency said 1,713 teachers were killed or were<br>\nstill missing, while 722 schools in 12 districts and<br>\nmunicipalities had been destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Purwanta added that Unicef preferred that students return to<br>\ntheir old schools if they did not suffer damage, but were<br>\ncurrently occupied by refugees. \"We have agreed with the Aceh<br>\nadministration to have the relief workers clean up the schools,\"<br>\nhe added.<\/p>",
