UNICEF marks Int'l Peace Day in Ambon<\/p>\n
AMBON, Maluku: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
\nrepresentative office in Ambon in cooperation with the Maluku
\nLibrary commemorated International Peace Day in the provincial
\ncapital on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Led by Maluku administration secretary Husein Soulissa, the
\nevent, normally marked on Sept. 22, demonstrated reconciliation
\namong the children of the area, particularly elementary to senior
\nhigh school students, who were once \"separated\" by three years of
\nsectarian conflict since 1999.<\/p>\n
Ambon UNICEF coordinator Willy Kumurur said the activity was
\npart of his office's cooperation with the Maluku administration
\nsince 1998, in efforts to improve the living conditions of local
\nchildren and mothers.<\/p>\n
\"The commemoration included a peace letter writing contest to
\nthe governor and regent\/mayor, computer training and mobile
\nlibrary tours of 23 villages in Ambon and Central Maluku
\nregency,\" he added.<\/p>\n
In their peace letters to the Central Maluku regent, the Ambon
\nmayor and the Maluku governor, the contest winners appealed to
\nthem to adopt a wise attitude in improving security, so that
\nstudents could study in a peaceful climate. --Antara<\/p>",
