        "content": "<p>A team from Hasanuddin University\u2019s (Unhas) Student Creativity\nProgramme for Entrepreneurship (PKM-K) has developed PLASTERA (Plastic\nDecomposer Era), a bioplastic wrapper designed as a solution for\ndifficult-to-decompose nappy waste. Team leader Andi Aliyah Tenri Awaru\nexplained that the innovation was born from a real societal need.\n\u201cScientifically, we are utilising the characteristics of several\nbiomaterials. Starch extracted from cassava peel serves as the main\ningredient for forming bioplastic, which is more easily degradable than\npetroleum-based plastic,\u201d she said. The innovation uses organic waste in\nthe form of cassava peel and eggshells, and is enriched with eco-enzymes\nto support the biodegradation process. Beyond its environmental aspect,\nPLASTERA is also designed to meet practical user needs. The wrapper bag\nis equipped with an adhesive so that nappy waste can be sealed more\ntightly, helping to reduce unpleasant odours, and has a compact design\nmaking it easy to carry when travelling. Nonetheless, the researchers\nemphasise that material innovation is only one part of the solution. To\nexpand its utilisation, the Unhas PKM-K team plans to introduce PLASTERA\nthrough social media, marketplaces, bazaars, and various student\nentrepreneurship exhibitions. Public education on the importance of\nnappy waste management will also be part of the product\u2019s development.\nThe development of PLASTERA demonstrates that there are many ways for\nstudents to showcase their critical ideas. With concern and sensitivity\ntowards future threats, students can make a real contribution. Indonesia\nproduces approximately 7.8\u20139.2 million tonnes of plastic waste annually,\nmost of which is not yet managed properly. This has the potential to\npollute the environment, particularly rivers and the sea. Amid the\nincreasing volume of disposable nappy waste, biomaterial innovations\nlike this serve as a reminder that solving the waste problem requires a\ncombination of technology, education, and changes in public\nbehaviour.<\/p>",
