Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Students participating in the second thematic\nCommunity Service Programme (KKN) from Universitas Negeri Gorontalo\n(UNG) are introducing silage, a complete feed, to the community of\nBatuloreng Village, Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, to develop\nhousehold-scale cattle farming.<\/p>\n
Field Supervisor Dr Srisukmawati Zainudin stated in Gorontalo Regency\non Wednesday that this programme is directed towards family food\nsecurity through community empowerment in the village.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe KKN students are educating corn farmer groups and cattle\nbreeders on how to produce silage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The use of silage helps maintain feed availability, particularly\nduring periods when fresh feed or green forage is limited.<\/p>\n
The material is processed and mixed with other necessary ingredients,\nusing predetermined measurements and compositions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe production process is carried out directly so that participants\nand the community do not only gain theoretical understanding but also\nsee and practise the feed processing method,\u201d said Srisukmawati.<\/p>\n
Once produced, the silage undergoes a storage or fermentation process\nbefore it can be utilised as livestock feed.<\/p>\n
The prepared silage is scheduled to be opened and used as cattle feed\non 16 September 2026, in accordance with the predetermined timeline.<\/p>\n
The KKN students are encouraging the local community to develop\nhousehold-scale cattle farming by utilising agricultural potential to\nsupport livestock feed requirements.<\/p>\n
The Head of Batuloreng Village, Bongomeme Awin K Poiyo, stated that\nthe presence of the KKN students is very helpful to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cEducation through the household-scale livestock programme and the\nproduction of livestock feed using the village\u2019s agricultural potential\nis believed to impact the economy of the community and this village,\u201d\nsaid Awin.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that the community could develop this programme\ninto an activity capable of generating income and growing the economy of\nBatuloreng Village.<\/p>\n
