Unfair treatment by Bellevue Court<\/p>\n
I am writing this letter to complain about the treatment I
\nhave received from the management of Bellevue Court Townhouses in
\nKemang, South Jakarta. I moved to Bellevue Court in March 1994.
\nThe usual rent is US$2,200 per month for a two year lease. I was
\nonly able to sign a one year lease, and therefore the price was
\nunderstandably increased to $2,500 per month. On Feb. 1 I was
\noffered to extend the lease for another year at $2,650 per month.<\/p>\n
First I said that this was not possible since my yearly
\nallowance is not to exceed $30,000. I asked if I could make the
\nlease for $2,500 per month, and was told by my landlord that he
\nwould do what he could. When he contacted me again, he said
\n$2,500 was not possible. I told him I would check with my company
\nand see if $2,650 would be OK. When I told my him that it was OK
\n(Feb. 9) he told me that I had to move out because he wanted to
\nrenovate the house so he could increase the price to $2,800 plus
\nextras, which will be a total of over $3,000 per month. So his
\nfirst offer of $2,650 was no longer valid.<\/p>\n
The reason for the sudden increase is that in April last year,
\nsix of the 18 townhouses were destroyed by fire due to the
\nnegligence of the management. All the brave tenants were trying
\nto put out the fire, but this was impossible due to no
\nfire fighting equipment being available. So to cover the cost of
\nrebuilding these townhouses, they increased the rent by this
\nridiculous amount. The place has been a construction zone since
\nMay, 1994, but not once have I complained about it. The reason
\nfor selecting Bellevue Court in the first place was because of
\nthe quiet and private atmosphere.<\/p>\n
They gave me a 19-day notice to find a new place to live. This
\nis not the way to treat loyal tenants, even more so with all the
\ncompetition they now face from all the new apartments and
\ntownhouses available in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
