Surabaya State University (Unesa) has suspended six suspected\nperpetrators of sexual violence whose case went viral on social media.\nThis step was taken following allegations of verbal harassment through a\ngroup conversation that allegedly targeted 26 victims, comprising\nstudents and lecturers at Unesa\u2019s Faculty of Vocational Studies.<\/p>\n
The head of Unesa\u2019s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of\nViolence (PPK), Iman Pasu Marganda Hadiarto Purba, said the six reported\nindividuals have been suspended from all academic and campus activities\nwhile the handling process is underway. He stated the move is part of an\nadministrative procedure to allow the examination process to proceed\nindependently while upholding the principle of presumption of\ninnocence.<\/p>\n
\"The reported individuals are suspended from all academic activities,\nexcept for matters related to fulfilling the examination obligations of\nthis case. This is not a final sanction, but part of the handling\nprocedure,\" Iman said in a statement on Sunday (19\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
The Unesa PPK Task Force confirmed that the handling of this case is\noriented towards the protection and recovery of the victims. The\nassistance provided includes psychological services, legal aid, and\nongoing academic support. Additionally, Unesa guarantees the\nconfidentiality of the identities of all victims, reporters, and\nwitnesses.<\/p>\n
Iman explained that the case originated from a complaint regarding an\nunethical chat history in a WhatsApp group involving six students from\nthe Faculty of Vocational Studies as the reported individuals. The\nconversation then circulated widely on social media and was promptly\nfollowed up after the Unesa PPK Task Force received an official\nreport.<\/p>\n

The handling is carried out with a\nvictim-oriented approach, upholding the principles of justice,\nconfidentiality, and prudence.<\/p>\n
