Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) has taken decisive action by\nsuspending six students suspected of involvement in a verbal abuse case.\nThe decision was made to facilitate the investigation process being\nconducted by the university\u2019s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling\nof Violence (Satgas PPK).<\/p>\n
Iman Pasu Marganda Hadiarto Purba, Head of the Unesa PPK Task Force,\nstated that the reported students have been temporarily released from\nall academic activities. However, they are still required to attend\nexaminations related to the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a final sanction, but part of the handling procedure to\nensure the investigation proceeds objectively,\u201d Iman said in Surabaya on\nSunday (19\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
The case came to light following a report about unethical\nconversation history in a WhatsApp group involving six vocational\nprogramme students. The messages were found to objectify several female\nstudents and lecturers.<\/p>\n
Based on preliminary investigations, the task force identified 26\nvictims, comprising female students and four lecturers. The\ninvestigation team is currently examining additional evidence from the\nextensive group chat history.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still conducting an in-depth investigation, examining\nwitnesses, and gathering additional evidence to map out this case\nthoroughly, objectively, and fairly,\u201d Iman stressed.<\/p>\n
The handling of this case refers to the Minister of Education,\nCulture, Research, and Technology Regulation (Permendikbudristek) Number\n55 of 2024.<\/p>\n
Iman emphasised that the university\u2019s main priority is to provide\nprotection to the victims. Unesa has prepared psychological assistance,\nacademic support, and legal aid if needed. The identities of the\nvictims, reporters, and witnesses are also guaranteed\nconfidentiality.<\/p>\n
He stated that Unesa urges the public and the academic community not\nto disseminate screenshots of the conversations or the identities of the\nparties involved to protect the victims from further psychological and\nsocial impacts.<\/p>\n
The university has also opened official reporting channels through\nthe PPK Task Force office and online services for anyone who knows of\nalleged violence within the university environment.<\/p>\n
