UNDP helps export promotion<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
\nsigned a document yesterday promising a grant of US$761,000 to
\nhelp develop better export promotion services in Indonesia for
\nsmall and medium-sized enterprises.<\/p>\n
The document was signed by Secretary general of the Ministry
\nof Trade Bakir Hasan and UNDP resident representative Fritz H.
\nLoebus.<\/p>\n
The project is aimed at assisting the ministry in providing
\ntrade promotion services for the business community, especially
\nsmall and medium- sized exporters.<\/p>\n
Loebus said one major problem which they hope to deal with is
\nthe lack of institutional arrangements for a mutually supportive
\npartnership between small and medium enterprises and the National
\nAgency for Export Development (NAFED).<\/p>\n
NAFED is the ministry's promotional agency for exports.<\/p>\n
The project will also try to establish an effective trade
\ncommunications system that will make better use of the combined
\nresources of NAFED, such as its overseas representative offices,
\nthe ministry provincial offices and other related agencies.<\/p>\n
The aid is also expected to improve the effectiveness of trade
\ninformation services for exporters, according to Loebus. This
\nwill be achieved by strengthening NAFED's Center for Trade
\nInformation and Market Analysis by creating a well-defined trade
\ninformation strategy that addresses the needs of the exporters,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
The two-year project will be executed by NAFED and the
\nInternational Trade Center. NAFED will provide personnel who will
\nwork with the international and national project to help with
