        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education\n(Kemendikdasmen) states that students from low-income families have a 90\nper cent opportunity to enter their desired schools through the New\nStudent Admission System (SPMB).<\/p>\n<p>Director General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and\nNon-Formal and Informal Education at Kemendikdasmen, Gogot Suharwoto,\nsaid his ministry strongly favours students from low-income families to\ncontinue their education via SPMB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a change in the SPMB system for the underprivileged. We have\na strong bias towards students from low-income families,\u201d Gogot said\nduring the Coffee with the Director General of PAUD Dikdas PNFI event in\nCentral Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>For secondary school level, for example, he explained that students\nfrom junior high schools who are underprivileged can continue to high\nschool through the SPMB affirmative pathway with a minimum quota of 30\nper cent.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, if the underprivileged student lives near the school\nlocation, he said that student can continue to high school through the\ndomicile pathway with a minimum quota of 30 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, if a student from the underprivileged category has\nachievements, Gogot added that the student can continue to high school\nlevel through the achievement pathway, which has a minimum quota of 30\nper cent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, if analysed more deeply, a student from a low-income\nfamily gets privilege in the 30 per cent affirmative pathway. They are\nless able but close to the school, they get privilege in the domicile\npathway. They are underprivileged but accomplished, they get privilege\nin the achievement pathway. So, students from low-income families\nactually have a 90 per cent chance to enter the desired school,\u201d said\nGogot.<\/p>\n<p>So far, his ministry has recorded that 9.4 million students will\nparticipate in SPMB from primary school, junior high to high\nschool\/vocational high school levels.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the SPMB implementation schedule, his side leaves it\nentirely to local governments.<\/p>\n<p>His side suggests announcing SPMB registration at the earliest in the\nfirst week of May, followed by a series of registration, selection,\nannouncement of new student placements, up to re-registration in June\nand July, taking into account the 2026\/2027 new academic year\ncalendar.<\/p>",
