Beneath\nsimple tarpaulins, survivor families are trying to carry on with their\nlives after their houses were damaged by the tremors.<\/p>\n<p>Tents have been erected around residential areas and evacuation\nsites. They are basic structures, consisting of frames covered with\ntarpaulin and offering limited space for several family members. Mats\nare laid on the ground for sleeping. Clothing, cooking utensils,\ndrinking water, and whatever belongings remain from their homes are\nstored close together inside the tents.<\/p>\n<p>For residents, living in tents is not a choice. They are afraid to\nreturn to houses that suffered damage from the earthquake. Some\nbuildings have developed cracks, while aftershocks have led residents to\nremain outdoors for their own safety.<\/p>\n<p>During the day, heat easily becomes trapped inside the tents. When\nnight falls, the air turns cold. The cramped space means family\nactivities must be carried out in turns. Cooking, eating, resting, and\ncaring for children all take place in the same area.<\/p>\n<p>Earthquake survivors in Mbay need proper temporary shelter, clean\nwater, bedding, hygiene supplies, medicines, and food that can meet the\nneeds of families during the emergency response period.<\/p>\n<p>Aid has begun to arrive.
