        "content": "<p>Uncertified airport cabbies caught<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): At least 62 taxi drivers operating at the<br>\nSoekarno-Hatta International Airport without accreditation were<br>\narrested on Wednesday for allegedly extorting money from<br>\nIndonesian workers returning from overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto Iskandar, Tangerang Police Precinct<br>\nchief, told Antara the crackdown came following numerous<br>\ncomplaints about extortion ploys of either charging passengers<br>\nexorbitant rates or directly demanding additional money.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The operation of the illegal taxi drivers at the arrival<br>\nterminals has far exceeded the tolerable level as they frighten<br>\nnot only the workers and passengers coming home from abroad, but<br>\nalso foreign tourists,&quot; Pudji said.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers were required to sign a statement declaring that they<br>\nwould no longer illegally operate at the airport and allowing the<br>\nauthorities to impound their vehicles for 10 hours, he added.<\/p>\n<p>By signing the statement, the drivers acknowledged they could<br>\nbe prosecuted for tarnishing the country&apos;s image for foreign<br>\ntourists and foreigners intending to do business in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The police also arrested 22 uncertified porters and 34 people<br>\nwho operated their private cars as taxis.
