Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Expert Council of Universitas Airlangga\n(Unair) Surabaya is committed to becoming a hub for academic thought,\ngenerating recommendations for both central and regional government\npolicy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want this Expert Council to play a good, strategic role while also\nmaking tangible contributions. One way is through the preparation of\npolicy papers and recommendations that can be addressed to the central\nor regional governments,\u201d said Chairman of the Unair Expert Council and\nCoordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus\nHarimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), in a statement in Surabaya on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The council is expected to take on a strategic role by channelling\nideas, studies, and research results from academics to support national\ndevelopment. He noted that academics and researchers at universities\nplay a crucial part in providing the data, scientific studies, and\nresearch findings that can form the basis of government\npolicy-making.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the government requires input from the academic\ncommunity to ensure policies are well-targeted and beneficial to the\npublic. \u201cWe recognise the importance of input from the campus community,\nacademics, and researchers for a government that must make decisions\nevery day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Unair Expert Council will promote the creation of a\nstrategic forum involving various stakeholders, including the younger\ngeneration. This forum will serve as a space for discussing a range of\nnational and international issues developing within society.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to present a strategic forum that involves not only the\ninternal Expert Council or the Unair Alumni Association, but also\nvarious stakeholders and the younger generation,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
AHY believes that universities make a significant contribution to\ngenerating ideas and thoughts for national development. He also\nexpressed appreciation for Universitas Airlangga\u2019s achievements, which\ncontinue to show improved rankings in the QS World University\nRankings.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, AHY mentioned that he carries two roles\nsimultaneously, as a member of the government and as part of the Unair\nfamily.
