        "content": "<p>UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the two-state\nsolution for the Palestinian issue not to be forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must not allow the two-state solution to vanish before our eyes,\u201d\nthe Secretary-General stated from the UN General Assembly podium on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Guterries, violence, population displacement, and the\nexpansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank are destroying the\npath to peace while simultaneously creating the risk of ethnic\ncleansing.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli authorities last week announced a tender for the construction\nof 2,167 new homes as part of the E1 settlement expansion project in the\nWest Bank. If combined with previously approved plans, the total reaches\n3,401 units.<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian side opposes the project, which could bisect the West\nBank and sever access to East Jerusalem from other Palestinian\nterritories.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russia maintains that a resolution to the crisis can only\nbe achieved based on the \u201ctwo-state\u201d formula approved by the UN Security\nCouncil.<\/p>\n<p>This solution mandates the establishment of an independent\nPalestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its\ncapital.<\/p>",
