Jakarta also urged the UN Security Council to closely monitor the\nprobe and act decisively on its findings, demanding legal accountability\nfor perpetrators and rejecting any immunity in attacks targeting\npeacekeeping personnel.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East on\nTuesday, Umar strongly condemned what he described as attacks on UNIFIL\ntroops on March 29 and 30.<\/p>\n
Indonesia also called on all parties, including Israel, to halt\nhostilities and comply with international law to ensure the safety of UN\npersonnel and the protection of United Nations assets.<\/p>\n
Umar stressed that the safety and security of peacekeepers must\nremain a top priority, including through emergency measures to\nstrengthen protections amid escalating conflict on the ground.<\/p>\n
Such measures include reviewing security protocols and activating\nevacuation plans in line with rapidly evolving conditions in southern\nLebanon, where tensions have intensified in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
The Security Council, he said, must reaffirm core principles ensuring\nthe protection of peacekeepers and take concrete steps to prevent\nfurther attacks against UN personnel.<\/p>\n
Indonesia reiterated its commitment to global peace and urged the\nCouncil to respond firmly, collectively and clearly to the incident to\nuphold the credibility of UN peacekeeping operations.<\/p>\n
He noted Indonesia, together with France, had requested the Security\nCouncil meeting, underscoring Jakarta\u2019s longstanding commitment to UN\npeacekeeping missions since 1957.<\/p>\n

Deep sorrow, anger<\/p>\n
Umar expressed deep sorrow and anger over the deaths of the three\nIndonesian soldiers, while also acknowledging the condolences and\nsolidarity shown by Council members and the broader international\ncommunity.<\/p>\n
He paid tribute to Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, 33, First Sergeant\nMuhammad Nur Ichwan, 25, and Private First Class Fahrizal Rhomadhon, 27,\nwho were killed while on duty.<\/p>\n
Fahrizal died at a UNIFIL post in Adchit Al Qusayr, while Zulmi and\nMuhammad were killed in an attack on a logistics convoy in Bani\nHayyan.<\/p>\n
Indonesia said the attack was unacceptable and represented a major\nloss not only for the country, but also for the United Nations and the\ninternational community committed to peace.<\/p>\n
In addition to the fatalities, five other personnel were injured:\nCaptain Sultan Wirdean Maulana, Corporal Rico Pramudia, Corporal Arif\nKurniawan, Corporal Bayu Prakoso, and cadet Deni Rianto.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese peacekeepers were killed and injured while carrying out the\nmandate entrusted by this Council,\u201d Umar said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia called for the swift, safe and dignified repatriation of\nthe deceased, and urged full medical care for the wounded to ensure\ntheir complete and rapid recovery.<\/p>\n
He rejected claims that the victims were operating in an active war\nzone, stressing the need to identify those responsible for creating and\nsustaining such conditions.<\/p>\n
According to Umar, rising tensions in southern Lebanon stem from\nrepeated Israeli military strikes that violate Lebanon\u2019s sovereignty and\nterritorial integrity.<\/p>\n
Indonesia said the recent increase in attacks on UNIFIL reflects a\nsystematic pattern aimed at undermining the mission\u2019s mandate under\nResolution 1701.<\/p>\n
Such attacks pose a serious threat to international peace and\nsecurity and could constitute war crimes under international law, he\nadded.<\/p>\n
